Edgar J. March III, age 78, of Canton passed away unexpectedly on November 28, 2024 following a brief illness. Born on September 21, 1946, to the late Dr. Edgar and Mary (Coy) March, Ed was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, educator, and friend whose impact will be cherished by all who knew him.
A graduate of McKinley High School, Ed also earned degrees from Mount Union College and Walsh University. His passion for education led him to a fulfilling career at GlenOak High School, where he taught English and Journalism, advised the high school newspaper and yearbook, and coached the Speech and Debate team, leading students to national competitions.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Philip, Douglas, and Chris; and sister Mary Beth. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Susan; son Edgar IV (Andrea), daughter Jennifer (Michiel) March-Wackers; grandchildren Jocelyn, Caden, Edgar V. March, Jacob, and Evan Wackers; siblings April Falconer, Harter (Gretchen) March, and Kate Harmon; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ed pursued his many interests with zeal, including photography, woodworking, computer technology, swimming, music, and reading. In retirement, he competed in many Senior Olympics swimming events across the country. His wit, humor, and warmth endeared him to all who crossed his path.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at Crossroads United Methodist Church in downtown Canton, officiated by Rev. Don Ackerman. The family invites all who knew Ed to attend.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Canton for All People, 120 Cleveland Ave SW, Canton, OH 44702, in Ed's memory. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Aultman Compassionate Care Center for their kindness and support during this difficult time.
