Dorothy D. Miller
Age 81, of Canton, passed away Sunday evening in Aultman Hospital. She was born in Canton, a daughter of the late Dewey and Maude Evans Dayton, grew up in North Carolina and returned to Canton in 1941. Dorothy was a 1946 graduate of Canton Township High School, attended Ohio State University, and graduated from both Malone College and the University of Akron. She retired in 1986 from Perry Local Schools where she was a teacher, and also was employed by Ohio Power Co. Dorothy was a member of Church of The Lakes, United Methodist, Delta Chapter #539, Order of Eastern Star, the College Club, Stark County Retired Teachers Association, Perry Local Retirees, and the Golden Girls of Ohio Power. Preceded in death by her husband, Marvin C. "Pete" Miller, her brother, Fred Dayton, and a close friend, Ronald Roberts. Survived by her sister-in-law, Donna Dayton, of Canton; two nieces, Debbie Kress and her husband, Steve, of Massillon, and Marcia Griffith, of Silver City, NM; two nephews, Jim Dayton, of Fairlawn, OH, and Bruce Griffith and his wife, Linda, of Oakridge, IL; Evie Boldt and Gayle Seymour and her husband, Pat, former students who were close to Dorothy; John Gezich and his wife, Anita, who considered Dorothy his aunt; close friends Marv and Mike Roberts, and his wife Michele; and Dorothy's faithful companions, Wonder Girl Two and Sable. Services will be conducted Wed. at 2 p.m. in Church of The Lakes, United Methodist with Pastor Bryan George officiating. Interment in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before the service on Wed. from 1-2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Miller's memory may be made to the Stark County Humane Society or Church of The Lakes, United Methodist, to be used for Calvary Missions.
