Dorothy E. Demass,

We celebrate the life and mourn the passing Dorothy Evelyn DeMass. Born on January 25/1915 in Smithville, Ohio, she was the second of seven children born to Marvin & Emily (Lehman) Stauffer who, as the children grew, formed a singing ensemble known in many churches as "The Stauffer Family Singers". Dorothy,101 at her passing on February 22, 2016, is survived by her son Robert DeMass of Uniontown, her older sister "Marge" Smith (approaching 103) of Ashland and younger sister "Arlene" Pierson of Ghent. "Dot", as her family knew her, is preceded in death by her son Timothy James DeMass, her siblings Raymond "Bub" Stauffer, Hildreth"Id" Schwan, Miriam"Num" (Ambrose) Schlisler , Wilma"Putz" Rich and Robert DeMass to whom she was married in 1941.

Dorothy lived in Springfield Township before returning to Wooster to care for her aging mother and ultimately built a house there. Prior to moving to Canton Christian Home in 2011, she maintained her house, lawn and garden. An active member of various organizations, she humbly lived her faith by example each day. Dorothy was respected by all and loved by those whose lives she selflessly touched.

A memorial service of celebration will be held at Rittman United Methodist Church at 3:00 pm on Sunday, April 17, 2016. There will be no pre-service activities however, following the service, all are invited to the church's fellowship hall to share memories, stories, sorrow and laughter and the fellowship of food. In lieu of flowers, please forward any memorials to the music fund of the Rittman United Methodist Church-211 N. Metzger Ave. Rittman, Ohio 44270.
