DONALD A. PEPPARD, SR.,
Age 95, of Canton, passed away peacefully at home. Born in Lakewood, OH, a son of the late James and Charlotte Stremple Peppard, he had been a Canton resident since 1946. Don was a 1935 graduate of Lakewood High School and a 1939 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University. He served for 6 years with the 1st Marine Division in WWII, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He received 5 battle stars and a letter of commendation. Don retired in 1993 as the President of Massillon Container Co., in Navarre, OH. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He was a lifelong member of Brookside Country Club and a founding member of Sharon Country Club. He served on the Boards of Massillon Community Hospital, FirstMerit Bank, and Community Services of Stark County. Don was preceded in death by his sister, Eileen Crawford. He is survived by his wife, Betty Kerby Peppard, with whom he celebrated their 51st Wedding Anniversary; two daughters, Mary Peppard, of Chicago, and Patty Peppard, of Santa Monica; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Dr. Donny Peppard, of Charlottesville, VA, Tom Peppard, of Canton, and David and Joanne Peppard, of Canton; and two grandchildren, Penn and D.A. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 11 AM in St. Michael's Catholic Church with Fr. Don King as Celebrant. Entombment in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call Thur. from 5-8 p.m. in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home, and on Fri. family and friends will meet at St. Michael's from 10-11 a.m. before the Mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Don's memory may be made to Community Services of Stark County, Inc. at 625 Cleveland Ave. NW, Canton, Ohio 44702 or a charity of your choice.
