DONALD H. HARTZELL,

Age 93, of East Sparta, passed away Mon., Jan. 11, 2016.  Born in Canton, a son of the late Harvey and Elizabeth (Townsend) Hartzell, he had been an East Sparta resident most of his life.  Don was a 1940 Graduate of East Sparta high School, served with the U.S. Navy during WWII, the Naval Reserves for 28 years and was an avid sailor and member of Atwood Yacht Club.  He retired from Sears as Manager of the Auto Center, previously having worked for the Timken Co.  Don had been the Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop #38 in East Sparta, and was a member of Isaac L. Kinney American Legion Post #244, East Sparta Christian Church, Sears Retirees, and Pike Grange.  Preceded in death by his brother, Edward Hartzell.  Survived by his wife, Mary Hartzell, with whom he would have celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary on May 7; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Shirley Hartzell, and Bruce and Katie Hartzell; and two granddaughters, Allison Dearing, her husband, Tony, and their children, Brooke and Peyton, and Ashley Andrews, her husband, Matt, and their children, Kyle and Brett.  A memorial service will be held Tues. at 11 a.m. in the East Sparta Christian Church with Rev.
