David H. Miller
Age 82, of Canton, passed away Friday, March 25, 2022. He was born Oct. 25, 1939 in Canton, a son of the late Henry and Evelyn (Volkert) Miller and step-father, Robert Beazel, grew up in Waynesburg, graduating from Sandy Valley High School in 1957, and Mount Union University in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. He received his Masters Degree in Health Education from Goddard College in Vermont. He began teaching at Sandy Valley in 1960. From 1967 to 1976 he went to Saipan Mariana Islands as a teacher, Principal and Curriculum Director. In 1976 David came to Jackson Middle School as an eighth-grade science teacher, and also as a high school Marine Biology teacher, and for many years took students to the Bahamas as part of the curriculum. He retired in 2001, but continued teaching at the SAMM Center until officially retiring in Feb. of 2022. David had been honored as a Jennings Scholar. He was a member of Church of The Lakes, United Methodist.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a sister, Karen Moran. He is survived by his wife, Donna K. Miller, with whom he would have celebrated their 58th Wedding Anniversary on August 8th, two sons, Scott (Heather) Miller, and Shawn Miller, two grandchildren, Drew and Morgan Miller, two sisters, Sue (Charles) Dalton and Jill (Bill) Patterson, and a brother-in-law, Dan Moran.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sat. April 9, 2022 at 4 p.m. in Church of the Lakes with Pastor Bryan George officiating. The family will receive friends from 3-4 p.m. before the service and in the church Fellowship Hall during a luncheon following the Celebration of Life. The service will be live streamed on the church website's home page, www.churchofthelakes.org. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors of Aultman Hospice and Palliative Care at Woodlawn for their wonderful and compassionate care and support.
