Obituary

David N. Keeney

of East Sparta, passed away peacefully in the Aultman Compassionate Care Center on Thursday Feb. 28, 2019.  He lived a blessed life of 92 years, 64 of which he shared with his loving wife, the late Betty D. (Schlimm) Keeney.  Born November 25, 1926 in East Sparta, he was the last remaining child of the late Leo M. and Bessie M. (Burson) Keeney.  He was preceded in death by his four sisters and four brothers, Margaret Hamilton, Mildred Finley, Elta May White, Mary Westbrook, Marvin, Franklin, Harvey and Dennis Keeney.  He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Suzette Keeney, of Canton; granddaughters, Linette Ruess, of Canton and Crystal (Thad) Kuharski, of Cranberry Township, PA; grandson, Gregory Keeney, of Parma, OH; great-grandchildren, Tyler (Samantha) Ruess, of Minot, ME, Tony (Melanie Walent) Ruess, and Caitlyn Ruess, of Canton;  and great-great-granddaughter, Paisley Ruess, of Minot, ME.  He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.  Dave served in the U. S. Army during World War II as a Military Police Officer stationed in Okinawa, and was a 72 year member of Isaac L. Kinney American Legion Post #244, and also was a member of East Sparta United Methodist Church.  Family and friends will miss the overflowing pockets of his flannel shirts and his incredible stories about working on the East Ohio Gas line.  He retired from East Ohio Gas in 1989 after 42 years service where he was a corrosion technician.  Dave loved to visit the dog and horse races, and had a minor love affair with scratch off lottery tickets.  Family and friends may call at the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The service will follow at 1 p.m.  Interment will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park.  Military Honors will be held at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Aultman Compassionate Care Center, 2821 Woodlawn Ave. NW, Canton, OH  44708.  Dave's family is eternally grateful for the kindness and dignity offered him by the caregivers of The Lodge at New Dawn in Canton and Aultman Compassionate Care Center.  Condolences may be sent to:  www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
