Charles Wilbur "Wib" Ramage
Age 97, of Waynesburg, went to be with the Lord Tuesday morning, May 3, 2011, in Hennis Care Centre in Bolivar. He was born in Byesville, OH, a son of the late Charles and Blanche Edwards Ramage, and had been a resident of the Waynesburg-Carrollton area since 1942. He was a member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Sandyville, formerly St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waynesburg. Wib was a great example to his family (totaling 63) of a hard working generation - first working in a coal mine at age 16, then in a furniture factory in Cambridge, OH. When work became scarce during World War II, he moved to Waynesburg with his wife, Lila, and their three little girls to work at Republic Steel in Canton. Loving the outdoors, he began picking apples at Muckley Orchards in Waynesburg, and then advanced to foreman. When the owner, Paul Muckley, retired, Wib and his wife owned and operated Muckley Orchards for 21 years, retiring in 1982. In their retirement years, they continued to grow and sell apples, operating Ramage Orchards, from their home in Carrollton. He also enjoyed raising cattle, woodworking, and growing beautiful roses. His wife enjoyed doing oil paintings of the roses. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lila, on July 12, 2000. Their marriage of 68 years was a great example of love and faithfulness through both good times and bad times. Also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Janet Louise Ramage, another daughter, Doris Maxine Longo in 1982, and a great-grandson, Morgan Radcliff, in 2007. Survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Gordon MacKay, of Huron, OH, and Virginia and Don VanVoorhis, of Waynesburg; his sister, Woneta Hoag, of Hoosick Falls, NY; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted Sat. at 11 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church in Magnolia with Pastor John Maroni and Wib's grandson, Pastor Jeffrey MacKay, officiating. His great-grandson, Pastor Chris Reed, will read the Scripture. Interment in Sandy Valley Cemetery. Friends may call Friday 6-8 p.m. at the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia. Contributionbs in Mr. Ramage's memory may be made to Shepherd of The Valley Lutheran Church, PO Box 40, Sandyville, OH 44671.
