Charlene S. Vogley
Age 69, of East Sparta, passed away Thursday morning in the Canton Regency after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Canton, a daughter of the late Wilbur and Ladine Fohl Smith, and had been an East Sparta resident since 1972. Charlene was a 1959 graduate of Lincoln High School and was a member of the Lincoln High /School Alumni Association. She was active in working on many high school reunion committees. She also was a 1962 graduate of Aultman Hospital School of Nursing and was President of her senior class. Charlene was a member of the Nursing Alumni Association and served on many nursing class reunion committees. Upon her graduation the faculty named her the most outstanding student nurse. Charlene had been employed at Aultman Hospital, for Dr. William A. White, Dr. Michael J. Gregorek and Cardiovascular Consultants. Since her marriage in 1972 she has been co-owner of Vogley Enterprises and C & G Nutrients. Charlene was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church, and two card clubs which have been in existence over 45 years. They were like an extended family member. Survived by her husband, Gary Vogley, with whom she celebrated their 37th Wedding Anniversary on Nov. 18, 2009; three step-daughters, Elaine (Thomas) Oliver, of East Sparta, Sherri George, of Canton, and Stefanie (Tony) Libertore, of North Canton; eight step-grandchildren, Jorden, Alexis, and Jaret Oliver, Nicholas, Mikayla, and Emma George, Isabella and Luke Libertore; a step-great-granddaughter, Haylie Oliver; a sister-in-law, Jeanne (Don) Anstine, of Navarre, two brothers-in-law, Christopher (Evelyn) Vogley, of Canton, and Kenneth (Cheryl) Vogley, of Navarre; a special loving aunt who was like a second mother to her, Ruth Young, of Canton; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many wonderful supportive loving friends. She was preceded in death by her uncle, Bill Young. A memorial Service will be held on Sat., March 6, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in Christ Presbyterian Church with Rev. Wendy Bausman officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the Memorial Service. A private interment for the family will be held in Sunset Hills Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Charlene's memory may be made to either Aultman Hospital Foundation, Aultman Hospice, or Christ Presbyterian Church. The family wishes to thank Dr. James Schmotzer and his staff, Dr. Roberto Novoa and his staff, Dr. Takami Sato and his staff, Dr. Froncie Gutman, and Dr. Robert A. Nagourney of Long Beach, CA, for their care and treatment, which helped extend her life for the past 19 years after being diagnosed with primary ocular melanoma in 1991.
