M. Catherine "Kay" Kemp
Age 92, of Magnolia, passed away Friday, April 25, 2014, in Bethany Nursing Home. She was born in Massillon, a daughter of the late Albert and Mary Frances (Riese) Ess, and her stepfather, Frank Lerner, and had been a Magnolia resident since 1944. After high school she attended Kent State University. Kay taught at Lincoln Elementary School in the Massillon City School System and at Genoa Elementary School in the Perry Local School System. She was a member of Magnolia United Methodist Church and Kappa Delta Pi Education Sorority at Kent State. Preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Robert L. Kemp, Sr., on Jan. 13, 2006. Survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Allison Kemp, of Canton, Leanne and Douglas Vucovich, of Magnolia, and Laurie Maryl and Daniel Jonas, of Canton; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert L. and Lesa Kemp, Jr., of Dellroy; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Kyle (Jennifer) Kemp and their children, Alyssa and Colton, Tyler (Shaleen) Kemp, Lauren Kemp, Logan Atkins, LynAnne Vucovich, and Rachel Hart; also survived by her former son-in-law, Larry Groves and his sons Luke and Sam Groves; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Helen and Robert Wachtel, of Columbus, OH, and M. Martha Ess, of North Port, FL; A private burial will take place in Magnolia Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held in Magnolia United Methodist Church at a later date and will be announced in The Repository and on the funeral home web site. The family wishes to express their appreciation to caregivers Glenna and Karen, and to the staff of Bethany Nursing Home and Crossroads Hospice for the love and care they gave Kay.
