Carl John Finley

Age 83, a lifetime resident of the Sandy Valley area, and most recently a rural resident of Magnolia in Tuscarawas County.  He was born June 29, 1939 in Canton, a son of the late Carl and Mildred (Keeney) Finley. Carl enjoyed fishing and boating (kayaking) on the many lakes and streams in the area, especially Leesville and Atwood, and enjoyed living in the country. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, whom he dearly loved.  Carl was retired from Haines and Company in North Canton after 39 years as a systems analyst.

In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by a son, Matthew J. Finley, on June 25, 1986, and a grandson, Andrew Finley.  He is survived by his wife, Betty, with whom he was about to celebrate their 63rd Wedding Anniversary; his sister, Marjorie Finley; two sons, Lee (Jennifer) Finley and Lynn (Tammy) Finley; six grandchildren, Sarah (Alex) Purdy, John Finley VI, Rebecca Finley, Benjamin (Katie) Finley, Ryan (Aimee) Finley, and Rachel (Garrett) O'Leary; Carl had three great-grandchildren, Luke Finley, Luna O'Leary, and most recently, Cora Finley, who was born just days before his death.

As per his request there will be no calling hours or services.  Anyone wishing to remember Carl may make a donation to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society.  Carl was a lover of cats, having two cats, Charlie and Grace, and had rescued many cats that had been abandoned.  Donations may also be made to the Stark County Wilderness Center for a Tree of Life.

Carl will be sadly missed by his wife, his family, numerous cousins and his closest friend, Gary Meiser.
