Bob Swearingen
Age 75, of Canton, aka *Hartville Kid* aka *Dollar Bob*, departed this world on June 6, 2010, headed for new adventures. Bob was born September 8, 1934 to Augustus and Evelyn Rock Swearingen, and spent his younger years growing up on a farm in Carroll County near Malvern. As a youngster, Bob discovered a natural talent for juggling. He later became famous for his ability to float four paper plates in the air simultaneously in controlled flight, and he applied for inclusion in the Guinness Book of World Records. He also was famous for giving juggling demonstrations for over 30 years at the Hartville Flea Market where he had a stand all those years. He was recognized in the January 1988 issue of Ohio Magazine as an Ohio Champion. He was an accomplished showman. Bob served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He distinguished himself while employed at Bankers Life and Casualty Company, and he also was retired from The Hoover Co. Bob was self-employed for much of his life, and as he put it had a "life of adventure." He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and lived life his way. Bob enjoyed writing and was a published author. He is survived by an aunt, Ruby Rock, of Waynesburg, who with her late husband, Dean Rock, cared for him upon his mother's death when he was 13, and four cousins, Joanne Douglas, of Cleveland, Judy and Rocky Graziano, of Malvern, Kathy and Donald Faulk, of East Sparta, and Dave and Jeanine Rock, of Magnolia. His family will miss his unique personality and generosity. To quote Bob, "It is true that I am one small drop of water in a large sea of humanity, but sometimes, ladies and gentlemen, those drops do sparkle." Services will be held on Wed. at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Rev. Steven M. Smith officiating. Interment in Bethlehem Cemetery in Malvern. Friends may call Wed. 10-11 a.m. before the service. Condolences and fond memories may be sent to the funeral home web site.
