BERNICE A. THORP,

Age 101, died Thur., June 12, 2014, in St. Luke's Lutheran Community.  Born in Chicago, IL, a daughter of the late Harry and Hilda (Otilia) Peavey, she had been a Canton resident for over 25 years.  Bernice was an avid bridge player and was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and the Married Couples Sunday School Class of the church.  She had assisted her husband in Kerr's Women's and Children's Specialty Clothing Store in Winfield, KS, which was the oldest in the state of Kansas.  Bernice volunteered for 20 years at the Chapel Hill Nursing Home and had been in charge of the Motor Pool Division of the Red Cross Gray Ladies in Kansas City, MO, in the early 1960s.   Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Thorp in 2007, and her sister, Eileen Peavey.  Survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Barrie and Marilyn Thorp, of North Canton; and two grandchildren and four great grandchildren, Mark Thorp and his wife Carolyn and their daughter, Aubrey, of Houston, TX, and Kimberly Nugent and her husband Thomas and their children Daniel, Tyler and Natalya, of Landenberg, PA.  A Memorial Service will be held Fri. at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of St. Luke Lutheran Community.  Interment in Woodland Cemetery – Jackson, MI.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bernice's memory may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Community, 200 Applegrove St. NE, North Canton, OH  44720.  Condolences may be left at: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com.
