Obituary

Beatrice L. Van Meter Age 76, of Mineral City, passed away Monday evening in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Mineral City, a daughter of the late James and Mary (Holcomb) Johnston, and was a life resident. Beatrice was a 1956 graduate of Sandy Valley High School. She retired in 1996 from the U. S. Ceramic Tile Co., after 25 years service, where she was a tile inspector, and previously worked at the Sparta Ceramic. Beatrice was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Auxiliary of Carr-Bailey American Legion Post #519. She had served on the Carroll-Tuscarawas County election precincts and well as the Mineral City election precincts. Preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Melvin A. "Red" Van Meter, on July 11, 1995, and a sister and brother, Bonnie Pittman and Fred Johnston. Survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and John Arnold and Dee Ann Garbrandt, all of Mineral City, and Sherry and Dennis Bevens, of Strasburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Kathy Van Meter, of Mineral City and Mel "Bugsy" and Renee Van Meter, of Akron; one sister, Thelma Arnold, of Mineral City; two brothers, Kenny Johnston, of Mineral City and Leo Johnston, of Dellroy; 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Rev. Mark Gross officiating. Interment in Union Valley Cemetery.
