Obituary

Barbara James Holler, age 88, passed away on April 11, 2012 surrounded by her loving family at St. Joseph Rehabilitation Center in La Crosse, WI. She was born in Magnolia, OH on August 14, 1923 to Richard and Nettie (Abegglen) James. Barbara married her beloved husband of nearly 57 years, Ed, on his birthday, August 20, 1949 in Magnolia, OH. Barbara graduated from Mt. Union College in Alliance, OH with a degree in Physical Education. She and her twin sister, Sue, achieved their lifelong goal of becoming phys -ed teachers. Both were members of Delta Delta Delta sorority and were the first women to win letter sweaters by competing in so many intramural sorority sports. In 1954, after Ed passed the Bar Exam, they moved their family to Toledo, OH. Barbara continued to be active with her sorority as President of the Toledo Tri Delta alumni chapter and Tri Delta alumni advisor at the University of Toledo. An active member of the Monroe Street United Methodist Church, she served on the Board of Trustees and as President of the United Methodist Women's group. After family, athletics was Barbara's passion. She loved helping out at her two sons sporting events and was a member of many Toledo golf leagues. An avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns and Mt. Union football, she also loved tailgating with her family at her husband's alma mater, Penn State. She moved to Village on Cass assisted living facility in La Crosse, WI in June 2010 to be close to her daughter and son-in-law, Joe and Susie Pavela. Barbara is survived by three children; Ed (Karen) Holler and grandchildren Kristen and John of Sylvania, OH, James R. Holler of La Crosse, WI and Suzanne (Joe) Pavela and grandchildren Joe Jr. and Lindsay of La Crosse, WI. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Edward J. Holler; brother Kermit L. James and twin sister, Suzanne R. Stroup. Services will be held at the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home, 266 N. Main Street, Magnolia, OH on Saturday April 21 at 11am.
