Barbara Jean Hanks

Age 80, went home to Jesus Friday, Feb. 21, 2014.  Barbara was born Dec. 30, 1933 in Portsmouth, OH, a daughter of the late Hazel A. Capien and step-father, Edward B. Capien, and had been a resident of the Carrollton and North Canton areas.  She retired in 1983 from the Hoover Co. after 14 years service.  Mom and grandma was a poet, artist, singer, teacher, athlete, beach comber, loved children, and most of all loved her family, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.  Barbara was a member of Carrollton First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, and the Sweet Adelines of Carrollton.  She also was a member of her beloved Florida church choir and several barbershop groups.   Barbara was married to her best friend, the late Robert C. Hanks.  She leaves behind her three children, Steve Cork, of Massillon, Louetta Contos, of Carrollton, and Toni (Cork) Smith, of Brunswick, OH.  Barbara also leaves behind her  six dear grandchildren and six dear great-grandchildren.  According to her wishes there will be no visitation and her family will hold private services and interment in Scott Cemetery.  Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
