Alvin L. Butler

Age 87, of Canton, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017.  He was born March 29, 1929, in East Sparta, a son of the late Roy and Gladys (Bungard) Butler, and had been a Canton resident since 1954.  Alvin was a 1947 graduate of East Sparta High School.  He retired in 1991 from Teledyne Monarch Rubber Co., after 23 years service, where he was a Supervisor.  He was a member of St. Paul's Community Church in Mineral City, a life member of the Dutch Club and the Belgian Hare Rabbit Clubs, and the Stark County Rabbit and Cavy Breeders.  Alvin had been a 4-H Advisor for 19 years and a judge for the American Rabbit Breeders Association for 30 years.  He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  He was a member of Isaac L. Kinney American Legion Post #244 in East Sparta and was active with the Boy Scouts of America for 50 years.  Alvin was honored by induction into both the Hall of Fame of the Dutch Club and the Hall of Fame of the Ohio State Rabbit Breeders Association. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara E. Butler, on March 22, 2010, a brother, Frank Butler, and a great-granddaughter, Mckenzie..  Alvin is survived by two daughters, Deborah Knight, and Cheryl (David) Hintz; one son, Roger (Janet) Butler; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren;  one brother, Robert (Kathleen) Butler, and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Butler.  Services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home with Rev. Scott T.
