Alfred T. Joliat
Age 90, of North Canton, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2023. He was born August 27, 1932 in Canton, a son of the late Alfred J. and Cecelia (Sumser) Joliat, and was a life resident of this area. Al was a 1950 graduate of Central Catholic High School. He founded Joliat Plumbing and Heating in 1960, which he operated until his retirement in 1983, and turned the business over to his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jeff Porter, which they operate until this day. He started a tree farm in Monroe County in 1976 where he and Sally spent much time in their cabin. They both were avid gardners. Al was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Green, St. Sylvesters Catholic Church in Woodsfield, and the Knights of Columbus Third Degree.
In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by one sister and five brothers, Miriam Joliat, Tom, William, John, Edward, and James Joliat. He is survived by his wife Sally, with whom he celebrated their 68th Wedding Anniversary on Sept. 25th last year; two daughters and one son, Nancy and Jeff Porter, Jacqui and Paul Bianchi, and Steven and Annette Primrose Joliat; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, Kiernan (J.P.) Reed, and their daughter, Charlotte, Mark (Dina Model) Porter, and their children, Maggie and Kate, Jana Porter, Amy (Jonathan) Traugh, and their daughters, Anna and Emily, Joseph (Julie Jamison) Brindlinger, and their children, Ava, Joey, Lily, and Jamie, Anthony Bianchi and Michael Bianchi; one brother, Dave and Carol Joliat, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 12 Noon in Queen of Heaven Catholic Church with Fr. David R. Durkee as Celebrant. Friends may call Friday 10-12 at the church before the Mass. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. The Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
