Alberta J. (Filliez) Gulley Alberta J. "Nana-Banana" age 85, of Canton, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2011. She was born in North Canton, a daughter of the late John Joseph and Eva (Griffiths) Filliez. She is survived by her children, Chuck and Joyce Gulley, of Washington, Dan Gulley, of Shreve, Tina Gulley, of Louisiana, Bret and Gina Gulley, of Minerva, Eva and Vince DiBartolo, of Canton, and David and Christa Gulley, of North Carolina; 19 grandchildren, Vince, Tammy, Cameron, Danny, Steve, Nicole, Kelly, Theresa, Ben, Erica, Caitlin, Jenny, Kathy, Michelle, Jeremy (Melissa Timpe), Rocco (Kelly Carter), Megan, Nicolas, and Erin; 18 1/2 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Charles, and daughter-in-law, Safrona (Reed) Gulley, of Shreve. Alberta retired in 1983 from The Hoover Co., after 15 years service, where she was an assembler. Following her retirement she was employed at Citywide Answering Service for 10 years, retiring in 1995. We will remember her never-ending love and support, always there with a shoulder to lean on and plenty of time to spare. Watching her tape her fingers each morning before going off to work, swaying to the Hawaiian Wedding Song, Andy Williams or some good old Engelbert Humperdinct, closing the garage door behind our rogue go-carts just in the nick of time, providing a place to crash for all of our friends with no questions asked, whistling along with Thaddeus T. Throckmortan Thornapple the Third, driving all over town in her sticker-mobile, taking care of our kids as if they were her own, eating coneys under the shade tree, watching the Christmas tree go up at Brookside, and reading books on the stairs way past the kids bedtime. Her engaging smile, quick wit and ornery ways will forever bring a smile to our faces and joy to our hearts. Miss you mom. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in North Canton Cemetery with her grandson, Jeremy DiBartolo officiating. There will be no calling hours.
