Age 91, of Canton, passed away Monday, Jan. 23, 2017. He was born in Claysville, PA, a son of the late John and Alma (Plants) Elliott, and had been a resident of Canton since 1947. Walter was a 1943 graduate of Morris Township High School in Prosperity, PA. He retired in 1987 from Hercules Engines, after 40 years’ service, where he was Foreman of Sales. He was a long time active member and usher of Simpson United Methodist Church. Walter was an avid woodworker and was a decorated U. S. Army veteran during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Ruth Elliott, on Jan. 9, 2007, one brother and two sisters, William Elliott, Emma Ward, and Jean Dorsey. Walter is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Everett Eagle, of Minerva, and his son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Anita Elliott, of Canton; two granddaughters, Lori Elliott and Kelly Harlow; three great-grandchildren, Jimmy and Lexi Harlow, and Jake Taylor Elliott; a sister-in-law, Ida Kerr; many dear nieces and nephews, and a long-time family friend. Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Simpson United Methodist Church with Dr. Ivy Smith officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park with Military Honors.
