Robert Lewis Wharton
Age 86, of Magnolia, passed away Sat. June 30, 2018 following a brief illness. He was born Dec. 29, 1931 in Pike Township, a son of the late Wayne and Mildred (Gerber) Wharton and was a life resident of the Canton South and Magnolia area. Robert was a 1949 graduate of Canton South High School and a graduate of Ashland College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He was a member of the First Christian Church and served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Robert was a 65 year member of Caldwell Lodge #330 F. & A.M. in Bolivar, 63 year member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton, and also a member of Tadmor Temple and Nazir Grotto. He was a retired electrician with Wharton Electric Co. Robert enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Hawaii, Alaska, and fishing in Canada. When not traveling he devoted his time helping his children and grandchildren with household and landscaping projects. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Lou Bowen. He is survived by his wife, Lou Ann, with whom he celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary on Oct. 27, 2017; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Julie Wharton of Copley, OH, and daughter, Lori Ann Spaulding, of North Canton; five grandchildren, Jessica and Jordan Wharton, Giselle and Trent Spaulding, and Kalen (Sarah) Bowen; two sisters, Marilyn Maddox and Linda (Hugo) Icardi, Jr. A private service was held in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Hospice Chaplain Kathleen Krause officiating. There will be no calling hours. A private interment with Military Honors was held. The family wishes to thank the staff of Aultman Hospice for the love and care they gave to Robert.
