John Scheurer Obituary

JOHN S. SCHEURER,

Age 74, of Louisville, passed away Fri., Feb. 16, 2018, in Rose Lane Rehabilitation Center, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.  Born in Canton, a son of the late Fred and Marie (Pomesky) Scheurer, he had been a life resident of Canton.  John was a 1961 graduate of McKinley High School and a member of the school’s 1960 swim team.  He served with the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War and was a member of Magnolia United Methodist Church and the former New Harrisburg Presbyterian Church.  John retired in 2006 from the Hoover Co., where he was a machinist and previously worked at the Timken Co. and Bowdil Co.  Preceded in death by his brother, Richard Scheurer, two brothers-in-law, Robert Nieporte and Don Bennett, and son-in-law, William Guthrie.  Survived by his wife Nancymae (Bower) Mason Scheurer, with whom he would have celebrated their 22nd Wedding Anniversary on June 29; one daughter, Pam Guthrie; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas (Rebecca) Mason; four sisters, Barbara Nieporte, Linda Gordon, Pat Bennett and Margaret Scheurer; one sister-in-law, Mary Scheurer; three grandchildren, Emily (Chris) Guthrie Cavanaugh, Brittany Mason and Seth Hoover, and Zachary Mason and his fiancée Holly Walcutt; three great grandchildren, Kaileb Carter and Daniel and Patrick Hoover; and nieces and nephews, Lynn (Jon) Jefferies, Sandy McGeachy, Mary Kolm, Lisa (Tony) Becher, Richard (Maurine) Scheurer, Beth (Jim) Hancock, Mindy (Dennis) Caldwell, Sharon (Shawn) Lorden, Lori (Tom) Collier, and Craig Gordon. Services will be held Wed. at 11 a.m. in the Magnolia United Methodist Church in Magnolia with Pastor Carl Orphanides officiating.  Interment in Magnolia Cemetery.  Friends may call Tues. from 5-7 p.m. in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home in Canton and Wed. one hour before the service, from 10-11 a.m. in the church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in John’s memory may be made to Magnolia United Methodist Church, 999 Canal St., Magnolia, OH 44643.  Condolences may be left at: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com.
