JANIS A. LAIGN,
Age 91, of Canton, passed away Mon., Sept. 24, 2018, in her residence. Born in Canton, a daughter of the late Clarence and Alice (Schneider) Lyons, she had been a life resident of Canton. Early in her life Janis worked at Buxbaum’s and after her husband died she worked at Heggy’s almost 30 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband McClure “Mac” Laign, on Jan. 28, 1972; brothers, Paul, Robert, Donald, William, and infant brother Richard; and sisters, Dorothy Feller, Betty Draiss, Marion Garcia, Judy Volk, and Pauline Huckels. Survived by her daughter, Kelly Laign; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael (Sandy) Laign and Scott (Jamie) Laign; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren, Stacy (Brandon) Scheatzle and their son Evan, Mindy Cuenot and her daughter Allyson, Ashley Davis, Justin (Nico) Laign and their daughter Julianna, Alexis “Lexie” Laign, Logan Laign, and Marisa Whaley; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Lucille Beswick and Midge (Stan) Ebin. She was always met with a smile on her face and always had kind words for others, and always rooted for the underdog. The love she had for others allowed her to be known as the “Mayor of the Neighborhood” with many front porch gatherings. Janis loved to play cards and spent 52 years in her beloved card club. A special thank you to her dearest friend Carol Roebuck and to her extended family, nursing aides Penny Daniels and Barb Davidson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Sat. at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Frank Carfagna officiating. Interment in Evergreen Memorial Garden.
