Helen M. Dycus

Age 91, of Waynesburg, passed away Friday July 27, 2018 after a brief illness.  She was born Nov. 16, 1926 in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late Ora “Orrie” H. and Martha (Streit) Shine, and had been a resident of Waynesburg her entire life.  She graduated from Waynesburg High School in 1944.  Helen was formerly employed by The Timken Co. during World War II, JC Penney’s, and Meridian Title Office.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Fred E. Dycus, on May 3, 2008, her son, Robert Dycus, on Feb. 11, 2010, and six brothers, Harry Shine, Lloyd Shine, Robert Shine, Waldo “Babe” Shine, Donald Shine, and Kenneth Shine.  Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl and Donald Gortney, grandson, Jeffrey Gortney and his wife, Miriam, and their daughter, Rachel, a granddaughter, Lisa Bernower and her husband, James, and their children, Tessa and Boyd.  Also surviving are brothers Leroy Shine, Paul (Barbara) Shine, sister Pauline Ord, and sisters-in-law, Rose Marie Shine and Roberta Shine.  A private service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Pastor Peggy Garner officiating.  Interment in Sandy Valley Cemetery will immediately follow.  There will be no calling hours.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Helen’s name may be made to Aultman Compassionate Care Center, 2821 Woodlawn Ave. NW, Canton, OH 44708.  Condolences to the family may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
