Eugene R. Girard

Age 92, of Magnolia, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017, from injuries sustained in an auto accident.  He was born in McRoberts, KY, and had been a resident of the Magnolia area 36 years.  He and his wife spent winters in Crystal River, FL for 15 years, and previously resided in North Miami Beach early in their married life.  Gene was a 1943 graduate of Middlebranch High School and grew up in that area.  He retired in 1990 from Ford motor Co., after 23 years’ service, where he was a maintenance supervisor.  He was a member of Magnolia United Methodist Church and the Sandy Valley Senior Citizens.  Gene was very active in scouting and while in Florida he started two Cub Scout Packs and one Boy Scout Troup, and served as Cub Scout Master and Boy Scout Master.  He also assisted Harold Gill with Boy Scout Troup #157 in Magnolia.  Gene enjoyed life, loved the outdoors, and was a conservationist.  He could readily identify all trees and plants.  He also liked to fish, cook, and grow vegetables in his garden.  He never met a stranger, was outgoing, upbeat, and always had a smile.  Gene served his county in the U. S. Army during World War II in Europe with the 20th Armored Division, where he was Communications Chief.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Doris J. Girard, on Jan. 2, 2015, one sister and three brothers, Virginia Griffith, Nathaniel, James and Donald Girard, and his beloved dog, Bonnie.  Gene is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jeanine and David Rock, of Magnolia, his son, Jeffrey W. Girard and Kris Anderson of Costa Rica, and a grandson, Callen Girard;  also one sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and Harold Richard, and a sister-in-law, Clara Girard.  A Memorial Service will be held Sat., August 26, 2017 at 11 a.m. in Magnolia United Methodist Church with Pastor Carl H. Orphanides officiating.  Friends may call one hour before the service from 10-11 a.m.  Military Honors will be held at the church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gene’s memory may be to the Magnolia United Methodist Church, PO Box 417, Magnolia, OH 44643.  Condolences may be sent to: wwwgordonfuneralhomes.com
