Don Akers

CLASSIFIED OBITUARY FOR SUNDAY

DON AKERS,

Age 85, of Louisville, passed away Sun., Aug. 5, 2018.  Born in Akron, a son of the late Oather and Mabel (Darlington) Akers, he had been a resident of the Akron and Kenmore areas most of his life, residing in Canton since 2015.  Don served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from PLE Trucking where he loaded the trucks and later worked at Akron Auto Auction.  He was a member of Victory Lodge #649, F. & A.M. in Akron for 52 years, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Akron, Yusef Khan Grotto in Akron; Barberton Moose Lodge #759; Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2370 in Canton; VFW Post #3747 in Canton; International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local #24; and Retired Teamsters Fellowship Club in Akron.  Preceded in death by his brothers, Oliver and Jack Akers, and his longtime friend and dancing partner, Olga DeRamo.  Survived by his surrogate family, Mickey and Marijo McCauley, Ryan McCauley, and his son Sam, Bob McCauley, Siobhan and David Rodrigues and their children, Kaleb and Aria, and his special friends, Shirley and Michael.  A graveside service with Military Honors will be conducted Thur., Aug 16, in Western Reserve National Cemetery at 9:30 a.m.  The Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Condolences may be left at: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com.
