Charles “Chick” Toma
Age 94, of Canton, passed away Monday June 25, 2018 after a brief illness. He was born June 7, 1924 in Canton, a son of the late Vasile and Suzanna (Curian) Toma and was a life resident. Charlie retired in 1986 as partner of Ohio Coil Cleaning Service. He continued working at Fame Beverage and retired in 2007. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and had been an active member of St. George’s Romanian Byzantine Catholic Church where he was Past President of the Church Council. Charlie enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his Barbie. He proudly served in the Army Air Force during World War II. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother and sister, George Toma and Caroline Buzille. Charlie is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Toma, with whom he would have celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary on August 29th; one son and daughter-in-law, Sandy and Kathy Toma, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Jennifer Ward and her children, Dinah and Max Ward, and Brian (Lynn) Toma; three sisters, Florence Paul, Ann Toma, and Mary Calendine. Services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home with Fr. Edward Beneleit officiating. Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery with Military Honors.
