Richard B. Daniels

Age 86, of Massillon, passed away Friday, Oct. 21, 2016.  He was born in Wheeling, WV, a son of the late Theodore W. and Helen (Baily) Daniels, and resided in the Canton area most of his life.  Dick was a 1948 graduate of Lehman High School, where he was active in chorus and theatre and also Demolay at the Masonic Temple, attended Stark State College for one year, and then graduated in 1953 from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, where he was a member of Mu Phi Alpha music fraternity.  Dick was a well-known radio personality host, and was best known for his Sunday morning show “Daniel’s Den” on WHBC.  He also was on the air for several other stations over the years.  Dick was active in several Players Guild Productions in the 1950’s, and managed the Canton Symphony Orchestra in the 1970’s.  During retirement he enjoyed driving for Meals on Wheels for many years.  Dick grew up in Christ Presbyterian Church, but mostly followed Director W. Robert Morrison and sang in his choirs.  During the Korean Conflict Dick served in the U. S. Navy.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Theodore B. “Ted” Daniels, on Nov. 14, 1979.  Dick is survived by his wife, Margo Peterson Daniels, with whom he would have celebrated their 46th Wedding Anniversary on Dec. 27th; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan and Megan Peterson, of Colorado Springs, CO, and Aaron and Laura (VanDuivendyk) Daniels, of Boston, MA; and two grandchildren, Ainsley and Cutter Peterson.  A Memorial Service will be held Wed. at 4:30 p.m. in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Williams, Pastor Larry Huff, and Dick’s great-nephew, Rev. Dr. C. Wess Daniels officiating.  The family will receive friends in the funeral home Community Center during a luncheon immediately following the service.  Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dick’s memory may be made to Arts in Stark, and on their donation page there is another link to their memorial page, or Urban Ark Canton, a Lutheran Homeless Charity, or to the donor’s favorite charity.  Dick thought it was morbid to wear black to funerals, so the family asks that you wear his favorite color, blue.  Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
