Welcome to the memorial page for

Judy Hoover

September 6, 1947 ~ September 1, 2016 (age 68) 68 Years Old

Judy M. Hoover, 68, of Canton, passed away surrounded by family and friends at her home on Thursday, September 1, after a courageous battle with cancer.  Judy was one of three children born on September 6, 1947 in Canton, Ohio, to Millie and Joseph Michael.  She attended Aultman Hospital School of Nursing and after graduation worked at Aultman Hospital in Labor and Delivery.  She married Dr. Thomas Hoover on November 7, 1971.  Judy lived her life passionately—dedicated to family, friends, and her community.  She enjoyed her leisure time especially with family floating on Atwood Lake and relaxing in “The Pines.”  While raising family, Judy became active in her community and through her commitment and dedication served as a volunteer in many areas—places where she could make a difference especially for women and children.  She served as a board member of the Executive Committee of the Women’s Board of Aultman Hospital, Chair of the Angel Auction, and Chair of the Aultman Gift Shop.  She also served as a board member of the Executive Committee and as Board President of Planned Parenthood of Stark County.  In addition, Judy served as a board member on the Executive Committee of the Museum Guild.  Within her immediate community, Judy was a member of the trustees for the Village of Hills and Dales.  In May 2016, she was awarded Honorary Alumna by Canton Country Day School. She was selected for her work as a community leader for serving on the CCDS board of trustees, and for continuing her husband, Dr. Thomas Hoover’s vision for CCDS through the Thomas H. Hoover Scholarship Endowment that was started in 2000.  She was dedicated to the school and served on numerous fund-raising committees and educational programs.  Judy is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Hoover, her sister, Barbara Grimsley, brother, Robert Michael, and brother, Arch Michael, and nephew Jason.  She is survived by children, Amy Hoover (Deb) of Canandaigua, New York, Christopher Hoover (Simone) of Louisville, Ohio, granddaughter, Nadia, dear friend Bonnie Servies of Canton, nephew, Steve (Shelly) Grimsley of Holly Springs, North Carolina, and sisters-in-law, Linda and Carol, and nieces, Stacy (Mike), Lesley,  Leslie (Steve), nephew, Todd (Karrie).  Author, Raquel Palacio writes, “Courage. Kindness. Friendship. Character. These are the qualities that define us as human beings, and propel us, on occasion, to greatness.” In this, Judy Hoover in her work, her living, and her fight with cancer, indeed reflects the qualities that made her an extraordinary human being.  Judy’s family and friends want to honor and celebrate both the passion that guided her life and her 69th birthday at her residence on Tuesday, September 6 at 5:00pm.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested in Judy’s name to Canton Country Day School Dr. Thomas Hoover Scholarship Fund, 3000 Demington Ave. NW, Canton, OH 44718 or Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio, 206 E. State Street, Columbus, OH 43215.
