Jack Hayes

JACK B. HAYES,

Age 96, of Canton, passed away Mon., Aug. 28, 2017.  Born in Massillon, a son of the late George and Kathryn (Hoernig) Hayes, Sr., he had been a resident of Canton most of his life.  Jack was a 1940 Graduate of Timken Vocational High School and retired in 1985 from Sears after 44 years of service where he was Manager of the Men’s Department.  He was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church, served with the U.S. Army during WWII, enjoyed playing golf and was an avid gardener.  Preceded in death by sister, Betty Myers, and brothers, Bob, Jim, and George Hayes, Jr.   Survived by his dear wife, Mary Louise Hayes, with whom he celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary on Dec. 29; beloved father of two sons, Tom Hayes and Jeffrey Hayes; two sisters, Virginia Clark, and Ann Hustis; one brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Carol Hayes; cousin, Sue Zanne Artzner; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.  The family would like to thank the staff at Bethany Nursing Home for the excellent care given to Jack the past four years.  Services will be held Sat. at 11 am in Simpson United Methodist Church with Dr. Ivy Smith officiating.  Interment in Warstler Cemetery.  Friends may call Fri.  from 6 to 8 pm in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home.  Contributions in Jack’s memory may be made to: Simpson United Methodist Church (in memo: Memorial Fund), 4900 Middlebranch Ave NE, Canton, OH 44705.  Condolences may be left at: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com.
