Edna S. Bromley

Age 99, of Canton, passed away Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016.  She was born in Painesville, OH, a daughter of the late Charles and Edna (Gettman) Strickler, grew up in Geneva, and had been a Canton resident since 1962.  Edna was a 1934 graduate of Geneva High School, and a 1938 graduate of Miami  University of Ohio, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology and a Minor in History.  After college she was a case worker for the Ashtabula County Welfare Dept. for a number of years.  She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in North Canton and had been an over 40 year member of the former Christ United Methodist Church in Canton, where she was a member and Past President of the United Methodist Women.  She also was an over 70 year member of Grace Chapter #11, Order of Eastern Star in Geneva, the Friends of the Library, and was active in the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts.  Edna had crocheted scarfs, hats, and mittens for Canton Calvary Mission and Massillon State Hospital for over 40 years, and she was an avid gardener and grew many types of flowers in her yard.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Clayton D. Bromley, on Sept. 16, 2004, two brothers and one sister, Charles and John Strickler, and Sarah Kujala.  She is survived by two daughters and two sons, Sarah “Sally” Ruckman, of Kent, OH, Mary (Robert) Irwin, of Summerville, SC, Dr. Clayton C. Bromley, of Canton, and Charles (Arvie) Bromley, of Henderson, NV; one sister, Barbara Seme, of Jefferson, OH; and seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren with two on the way; also numerous nieces and nephews.  According to Edna’s wishes there will be no calling hours or services.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Edna’s memory may be made to the Canton Calvary Mission, 1345 Gibbs Ave. NE, Canton, OH 44705.  The family wishes to express their appreciation to the Wed. morning Bible Study group of Christ United Methodist Church for their love and companionship all these years.  They would also like to thank Mercy Medical Center and Mercy Hospice for their compassionate care for Edna and her family.  She was much loved and will be missed by all.  Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
