Doris A. Garster
Age 88, of Canton, passed away Friday, March 30, 2018. She was born Feb. 11, 1930 in Magnolia, a daughter of the late Thorl and Mildred (Weaver) Betz, resided in the Magnolia/Waynesburg area many years, and Canton since 1972. Doris was a 1948 graduate of Waynesburg High School. She worked at Canton hardware after high school until she got married. Then later she worked at Perry High School as a hall monitor, and then volunteered at Watson Elementary School. Doris was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church and the Eve-Mary Circle of the church, and also had been a member of the former Canton Moose Lodge. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Verl Z. Garster, Jr., on Feb. 29, 2016. Doris is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Claudia and Scott Westphal, her son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Christine Garster, and five grandchildren, Chelsey (Bryce) Newton, Zachary (Elizabeth) Garster, Colin, Aaron, and Chloe Westphal; also two sisters and three brothers, Marilyn Rugani, Jane Hockenberry, Edgar (Jackie) Betz, Dick (Donna) Betz, and Bob (Joan) Betz. Services will be held Sat. at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia. Interment will be in Sandy Valley Cemetery.
