Carole Ann Halter

Age 79, of Magnolia, passed away Friday morning, Feb. 23, 2018, in her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was born June 29, 1938 in Louisville, a daughter of the late Raymond and Marie (Bowers) Zwick, and had been a resident of the Sandy Valley area 60 years.  Carole was a 1956 graduate of Sandy Valley High School.  She retired from Sandy Valley Local Schools as a cook for 25 years at Magnolia Elementary School, where she enjoyed interacting with the kids in the cafeteria and seeing what they liked to eat and didn’t like.  Carole was a devoted and active member of St. James Catholic Church.  But mostly, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cooking and baking for all her family.  She was a member of WOW (Women of Waynesburg).  Carole was named an Honorary Executive Board Member of the Sandy Valley Alumni Association.  Besides her parents, Carole was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother, Janice Glaser, Donna Crum, and Robert Zwick.  She is survived by her husband, Ramon “Sonny” Halter, with whom she celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary on Sept. 15, 2017; two daughters and one son, Kimberly (Kim) Steinmetz, Kris (Bill ) Hayhurst, and Steve (Tom Dooley) Halter; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Jennifer (Doug) Griffing, and their children, Landen and Jillian, Scott (Robyn) Steinmetz, and their children, Dane and Nora, Kyle (Marilyn Ordonez) Hayhurst, and Ali Hayhurst; and one sister, Marilyn “Midge” (Paul) Blake.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wed. at 10 a.m. in St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Zamary as Celebrant.  Interment will be in East Sparta Cemetery.  Friends may call Tuesday 5-8 p.m. at the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Carole's memory may be made to St. James Catholic Church or Aultman Hospice.  Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
