Large enough to serve you.
Small enough to know you.
When youre faced with planning a funeral, you naturally trust a firm that offers a long history of service to local families. From humble beginnings in 1918, Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home has grown with the community for almost 100 years. Today, with two convenient chapels in Canton and Magnolia, we are proud to offer four generations of experience, compassion, and a long-standing tradition of community service.
Our history began over 85 years ago when U.R. Gordon purchased his first funeral home from R.V. Davy in Mineral City, Ohio. Family involvement was present from the start as Mr. Gordons wife, E. Marie, worked alongside her husband as a licensed funeral director. In 1937, the Gordons and their son, R. Eugene, started a second funeral home in East Sparta. Eugenes brother, Samuel, was also involved in the family firm as a licensed embalmer.
The family tradition continued when, in 1969, Eugenes son, E. Spencer, moved to Canton and purchased the location that is the current Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home. The addition of the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia occurred in 1985. In 1996, Craig E. Gordon, Spencers son, became the fourth generation family member to join the business and, two years later, the original funeral home and the East Sparta location became one with the Magnolia location.
